A brother, a mentor, hero – gone too soon!

As I look back on the years, I remember the voice that echoed through the corridors of OGTV, the words that painted vivid pictures of Nigerian sports, and the passion that inspired a generation of journalists. Alhaji Akeem Akintunde was more than a sports journalist – he was a legend, a trailblazer, and a guardian of the profession.

Growing up, I watched him dissect matches, analyze performances, and tell stories that transported us to the heart of the action. His dedication to journalism and sports development was unwavering, and his impact on Ogun State’s sporting community is immeasurable. He had a way of making you feel like you were right there in the stadium, cheering alongside the crowd.

As Director of Programmes at OGTV, he led with distinction, and as SWAN chairman, he mentored and empowered younger journalists. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the stories he told, and the passion he ignited. The void he leaves behind will be felt for a long time, but his contributions to Nigerian sports journalism will forever be etched in our memories.

I recall his infectious laughter with Egbon Biodun Alabi on the OGTV Sports Show, his wise counsel, and his unwavering commitment to the truth. He was a true professional, and his passing is a painful loss to the journalism fraternity.

Rest in peace, Brother Akeem. Your memory will forever be a blessing to us all. Your legacy will continue to inspire, and your stories will live on in the hearts of those who knew you.
