69Th Founder’s Day

Good Morning,

Welcome to all – alumnae, students, Principals, staff, and friends! This is such a special moment for AGGS, one of few model high schools in Ogun State .
The Saga of AGGS,which discusses our 69 years history and has many excellent observations about where we are today and about the challenges we will face in the future.

The Anglican Communion General Assembly authorized a new school for girls only in an attempt to ensure that their positions aren’t restricted to only the ‘Ozer’ rooms and kitchens.

The Anglican Communion and it was 69 years ago today.

This is a moment that allows us to consider what our aspirations have been over the years; reflect on 69 years of growth, grit and greatness; celebrate all that we have achieved together; and aspire yet again – as success is never final.

We can better understand AGGS’s growth over the past 69 years if we consider the national context in which our alma mater was founded and consequently grew.

The good news is that more people of every race and ethnic group have been nurtured and are still being nurtured today by AGGS more than ever before. And AGGS is widely regarded as a national model for inclusive excellence in a high school.

AGGS’ Reflections on 69 years;

How did we become an institution that others are seeking to emulate?

We have only God to thank for the answer to the above question.

It was clear that the Anglican Community needed more capacity for high-achieving students and AGGS has been part and parcel of the solution.
Many successful old girls remain indelible testament to this fact.

Aspirations:

Our
(vision] …is for AGGS to be the best model high school for the twenty-first century, and to be the best public secondary school of its size in the country.”

And so to our current students this morning, I say;

• Be progressive – forward looking
• Be responsive – embracing our community and its needs
• Be selective—realizing that it would not be realistic to try to be all things, excellently, to all people, but that it could grow selectively to be excellent in key areas
• Be metropolitan—be a partner for the region, a force for addressing its social problems and economic development needs. My point is that we need to set our sights high. “AGGS is a high School on the move. We know what we want to become and how to get there. We will work to become the best in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole and we are determined that our dream will not be
deferred.”

As we celebrate our 69th anniversary, it is important to recognize how far we have come over the past 69 years with regard to information technology @ AGGS.

NCC over the years has been so generous through gifting both our junior and senior schools befitting computer rooms complete with solar powered energy and we are grateful for their invaluable gesture.

• As always, I’m encouraging our current girls in embracing and emphasizing the power of grit: high expectations and hard work while keeping at the back of their minds that they’re future wives and mothers:
Nation builders: train a woman and train a nation.

I strongly believe in high expectations and have a passion for learning and would like our students to imbibe the same.
This is the only avenue to advance knowledge and educate our students to make a difference in our society and our world. And, most of all, we still believe in hard work.

I often quote Aristotle: “Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intentions, sincere effort, and intelligent execution. It represents the wisest choice of many alternatives—choice not chance, determines your destiny.”

It takes grit to achieve greatness!

A huge thank you to the entire body of aggsoga worldwide for all she does, all our teachers and non- academic staff of AGGS for all they do.
May all our elaborate labour of love on our current students be abundantly rewarded by God Almighty.
Amen.
