ASLG BOSS HON. MAJEKODUNMI BAGS NET ADVOCATE AS HE FLAGS OFF THE DISTRIBUTION OF INSECTICIDE TREATED NETS

The Executive Chairman, Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon.Omolaja Ayodele Majekodunmi (H.O.A.M) has been decorated as Net advocate by pharmacist, Emeka Orkafor, the representative of the Society for Family Health (SFH). The decoration occurred during the flag off ceremony of distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets held yesterday 26th August,2021 at Oke-Ilewo Health Centre.
The Council Boss in his speech, appreciated the Federal and State Ministries of Health, the Society for Family Health and the Cathedral Release Service for deeming it fit to reduce the menace bedeviling our society. Speaking further, the Chairman said that all hands must be on deck to curb this menace as it affects the vulnerable groups which are majorly children under 5years of age and pregnant women.
The Council helmsman reiterated that, the collection of the Net is one thing but the regular, correct and consistent use of the Net is the most important as it is only this behavioural change that can reduce the prevalence of Malaria in Ogun State. He however, demonstrated to the people at the event by sleeping inside the net just to show how easy and convenient it is for them to use.
Hon. Majekodunmi explained that, to ensure equitable and seemless distribution there was an introduction of cash and asset transfer (CAT) a strategy that will ensure improve coverage, easy payment of participants and above all improve monitoring and supervision. Hence, he charged the distributors of the Net to discharge their duties diligently and desist from any action that may draw the hand of clock backward.
Meanwhile, the council boss, urged all and sundry not to forget the precautionary measures of covid-19 by maintaining physical distancing, avoid shaking of hands, ensure the washing of hands regularly, using of hand sanitizer and the use of face masks provided by the government.
However, the chairman, thanked the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR for not only supporting this Programme but has taken health care delivery to greater heights since his assumption of office.
In the same vein, the Council Boss, appreciated all the stakeholders, the sponsors of the programme, the facilitators, and the participants for their resilience, doggedness and readiness to serve.
Speaking earlier Dr.Festus Adetomiwa representing the State Commissioner of Health, admonished people at the event to embrace the programme and make proper use of the Net, adding that they should see the programme as a way of giving back to them by government.
