Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has officially launched the construction of the 70-kilometre Abeokuta-Ifo-Ota-Lagos Motorway, with a commitment to complete it in 18 months. The road, essential for connecting Ogun and Lagos States and facilitating national trade, has faced delays since its initial award in 2003 due to persistent funding challenges.

The project was recently approved by President Bola Tinubu, marking a significant breakthrough after years of stalled attempts.

To ensure timely completion, five construction teams will work on different segments of the road. This approach aims to expedite progress and minimise disruption during the construction period.

The road’s reconstruction is expected to greatly impact economic activities by improving access to industrial hubs in Ota and enhancing connectivity for local communities.

Governor Abiodun emphasised that the project would create jobs, boost security, and improve overall infrastructure.

He also called on the local community and private sector to support the initiative. The governor’s efforts are seen as a major step towards alleviating the longstanding issues faced by motorists and enhancing the economic landscape of the region.
