Darwin Nunez’s Brace at St.James Park Seal Victory for Liverpool Against Host Newcastle, Liverpool 2 – Newcastle 1

The $85 Million Uruguay International, Darwin Nunez was the colossal of all eyes at St.James Park as a super sub that nailed the coffin of the host Newcastle with two brilliant goals.

The Magpies were on the driving seat with the opening goal in the 25th minute when Alexander Arnold miss-controlled Mohammed Salah’s pass, given room to the former Everton man, Anthony Gordon to race into the vital area before unleashing a blistering shot past Alisson.

The goal spurred the home side into more actions and to make the case worse, Virgil Van Dyks was sent off after unwittingly fell Alexander Isak in the 28th minute.

Liverpool were down to ten men, with Newcastle itching to increase the tally but Alisson was in fine form, making daring saves to prevent rampaging Magpies from doing further harm.

In the second half, Liverpool was more on the defensive with occasional counter attacks but on such occasions, Pope was equally up to the task .

The introduction of Darwin Nunez at the tail end of the keenly contested encounter was instrumental for the Reds as out of favour, Darwin Nunez capitalised on Botman’s error to fire past Pope for the important equalizer.

Liverpool eventually snatched victory from the Magpies three minutes into stoppage time with Darwin Nunez changing the tide of the game with the second goal via Mohammed Salah’s pass to seal victory for the Reds.
