EPL: Red Devils Scoops a Win Against Leeds, as Man City Rekindles Hope for Title Ambition

Manchester United’s last ten minutes brilliance gave them victory against hard fighting Leeds United at Elland road in an unusually back to back duels, having played two — two draw at Old Trafford early last week.

The Whites came out smoking in the early part of the encounter to secure the maximum points to avoid relegation zone but the Erik Ten Hag side was in no mood to concede victory.

The game was barely three minutes old when Summerville failed to capitalize on a loose ball in the United vital area.

Leeds continued pilling pressure on United defense, leaving the Red Devils chasing the ball around. What could have been the opener was masterfully stopped by David De Gea denying Summerville from scoring in the late first 45 minutes.

The Leeds goalkeeper, Meslier was called to duty with superb save, denying Bruno Fernandez of an opening goal in the first half injury time.

Manchester United began on a poor note in the second half, with Leeds pouncing on the shaky United defense, marshalled by the team captain, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw in the central defense.

Another mixed up at the back from United gave Summerville yet another chance but the man of the match, David De Gea, came to the rescue again.

The Spanish made six daring saves against the rejuvenated Leeds United under the new interim manager, Michael Skubala .

However, the introduction Lisandro Martinez to fortify the defense and Alejandro Garnacho paid off as both players changed the tide of the game.

The Red Devils took the lead in the 80th minute, Luke Shaw who was moved to normal wing back position floated in a Cross which was beautifully nodded home by the in – form Marcus Rashford, gotten twelve goals in the English Premier League, only two behind Brendfort’s Ivan Toney.

Alejandro Garnacho added the second goal in the 85th minute to take the match beyond Leeds United. The Whites have gone nine games without victory in English Premier League.

In the meantime, Manchester City at Etiahad, rekindled the hope of title aspiration with three goals to one spanking of Aston Villa.

City headed into the game, having seen Arsenal drop points against Brendfort in their earlier fixture.

Pep Gaurdiola tutored side, opened the flood of goals as early as fourth minute, through Rodri, via the assistance from Riyad Mahrez.

The city raided the defense of Unai Emery’s at will but could not register any goal until 39th from Likay Gundogan while Riyad Mahre completed the routing with the third goal via a penalty.

In the 61st minute, Ollie Watkins got the consolatory goal for Aston Villa.

With the victory, Manchester City has been able to reduce the points separating them from the table topper Arsenal, to three points though with Gunners still having an outstanding game at hand.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the mid-week cracker, when the two title contenders clash at the Emirate arena as the battle for the 2022/23 English Premier League continues.
