HOLGA Akintomide Urges Ifo LG Information Staff to Be More Professional in Their Dealings

The Head of Local Government Administration, Ifo Local Government, Mrs. Akintomide, Taiwo Omotayo has urged members of Information, Education and Sports Department, of the Council Area, to be more professional in their day to day activities in a bid to be more productive in their efforts towards taking the Local Government to an enviable heights, while reminding them that information is power.

Mrs. Akintomide who has a journalism cum Public Relations background, made the plea while declaring open a one-day training exercise for members of staff of the department held at the local government secretariat recently, so as to prepare them for more tasks ahead through the usage of new trends in information dissemination, which she said will be of immense benefits, in the course of discharging their duties.

She then appreciated the assistance so far received from the present administration under the able leadership of Hon. (Mrs) Kikelomo Aridunnu Delano, for her support both morally and financially, mostly in the area of training, retraining and welfarism of the entire staff which is second to none.

Akintomide, the number one Civil Servant in the Council Area also acknowledged the directive of the Local Government Service Commission for opening the eyes of various Local Governments on the need to train and retrain its staff in a bid to have a crop of well trained, acculturated, and disciplined officers in the service.

The training sessions were divided into two parts, the first lecture was entitled; “Competence in Communication and its Importance for Information Dissemination” taken by the Head of the Department, Mr. Dele Ogunyemi.

While, the second lecture titled; “Information Management at the Local level: An Emphasis on Planning Communication Campaign” was done justice to by an Information Officer in the department, Comrade Olanrewaju Daud Martins respectively.

The two facilitators dueled extensively on what an Information manager needed to be acquainted with in the act of disseminating efficient and effective information to the grassroots, while noting that, if an information is not professionally handled, could lead to misinformation and negative feedback.

The training exercise was well attended by all the staff of the department.
