HUMAN CAPACITY BUILDING: LGSC BOSS URGES HEALTH WORKERS TO SEE THEIR JOBS AS IMPORTANT

The Ogun State Local Government Service Commission Chairman, Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo has urged all the medical personnel in the Local Government health facilities to see themselves as key and important noting that, their jobs are between life and death.

Ms. Onabanjo who was represented by the Commissioner III, who also supervises the Department of Manpower Development and Training at the Commission, Hon. (Dr) Olusesan Abolaji Fagbayi, made the assertion while declaring open a day workgroup meeting organized for another batch of the Community Health Extension Workers (CHEW) serving in Abeokuta South, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Local Governments respectively, held at the Olusegun Taiwo Hall, Abeokuta South Local Government Secretariat, Ake.

She used the medium to appreciate the State Governor, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, who has been workers’ friendly since inception of this administration, “because, if not for his encouragement and unflinching support to the present Commission, since the inauguration in November, 2020, we couldn’t have achieved so much mainly in the area of human capacity development” she added.

In her words; “the workgroup meeting is the continuation of the previous ones that had been organized for some cadres in the Local Government Service, in order to improve their productivity and service delivery to the people of the grassroots in conformity with His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun’s vision of providing qualitative service to the citizens of Ogun State.”

She reminded them that, their cadre occupied prominent position in the strategic implementation of the Primary Health Care programme of the government, hence the need for constant training and retraining to update their knowledge and skills on their roles, as Community Health Extension Workers and to expose them to new trends in health service delivery system through some carefully selected topics.

Ms. Onabanjo therefore, enjoined them to be attentive and participate actively in all the papers to be presented, so that at the end of the meeting they would have been, better equipped to cope with the changes and challenges brought about by the current Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the country and the entire world at large.

She emphasized that, they should put to bear whatever they gained in the course of the training when they get to their respective health facilities, as this will go a long way in justifying the huge resources invested in them.

The LGSC boss stressed that, she believed it will as well give members of the public a change of mind concerning the attitude of Primary Health Care staff generally while, reminding them on the need to come up with a communique at the end of the programme, stressing that, it will assist the Commission in its policy formulation.

Speaking earlier,  while welcoming participants into the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Adeolu Oluseun Olufowobi congratulated them for being the first cadre to be trained in the new year 2022 and charged them that, “to whom much is giving much is expected.”

The Director, Manpower Development and Training, Alhaji Onagbenga Onayemi while declaring the workgroup closed, appreciated all the participants for their support and cooperation with all the facilitators and assured them that, every points raised in their communique would be looked into by the Commission.
