IKLG BOSS CAMPAIGNS FOR PREVENTION AND EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER

The Executive Chairman, Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Olusegun OGUNLEYE has described the prevention and early detection of Breast and Cervical Cancer  as the best strategy to fighting Cancer.

The Chairman stated this while speaking at the Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Programme held at the Primary Health Centre, Ago Ilara, Ilisan Remo, on Friday, 12th November, 2021.

He urged Women to be aware of the cancer and get appropriate information needed for their detection and prevention, which remains the most effective strategy to combating the scourge.

Hon. OGUNLEYE thanked the Ogun State First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele ABIODUN, and her team, for the opportunity given, to join in the fight against the dreaded disease.

He appealed to women to always examine themselves through the various self-examination methods.

The Council boss appreciated the Governor for his various Health interventions,  particularly, the completed renovation and equipping of the Primary Health Centres at Iregun, Iperu; Iperu; Ogere; and Ago Ilara, Ilisan.

“On our part, since we assumed office, we have been able to procure drugs for all our 10 Health facilities, and entered into a partnership with the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, on Paediatrics”, said the Chairman.

He thanked the Council’s management and entire Staff, led by the Head of Local Government Administration, Engr. (Mrs.) Olanike OGUNBONA, FNSE, for their support towards his administration so far.

In her address at the event, the  Ogun First Lady, Mrs. Bamidele ABIODUN, enjoined women to always examine their bodies for early detection of cancer.
She advised them to jettison the fear associated with the disease, describing it as preventable and curable.

She also counselled nursing mothers to always breastfeed their babies exclusively.

Other speakers at the event included: the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi COKER; Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Funmi EFUWAPE; Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Elijah OGUNSOLA, representatives of the Medical Women of Nigeria (MWAN) and National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midmives (NANNM); also spoke about the importance of prevention and early detection in the fight against cancer.

Present at the event were the Chairperson, Ikenne Local Government, Mrs. Gbemi OGUNLEYE; Vice Chairman, Hon. Bolanle FAKOYA; Leader of the House, Hon Oladele OTESANYA; Members of the Legislative Council; and Director, Primary Health Care, Dr. Seun OLUSAN
