The attention of the Caretaker Commitee of Rivers State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has been drawn to a purported Communique issued at the end of an illegal Congress meeting allegedly called today, September 10, 2021, by the immediate past chairman and secretary of the Council, Stanley Job Stanley and Ike Wigodo, respectively, who have been fomenting crisis in the Council because of their desperate ambitions.

It is a known fact that the Council is currently under the leadership of the CTC inaugurated, yesterday, by the National Secretariat in compliance with Article 5C (9c) of the NUJ Constitution. Therefore, only the CTC has the sole responsibility to call for any Congress meeting of the Union in the state.

The CTC had earlier warned about such illegal meeting which is tantamount to impersonation.

The CTC, therefore, states categorically that the deliberations at the purported Congress Meeting are null and void and of no effect as the meeting was called by illegitimate officers of the Union. We warn those illegally parading themselves as chairman and secretary of the Union to stop forthwith and desist from any attempt to perpetuate themselves in office under any guise.

“They should sheath their sword and allow peace to reign in the Council or face disciplinary actions. A word is enough for the wise” he said
