LG Autonomy: NULGE Applauds PMB on LG Funds, Lambasts State Governors

The National President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE Comrade Akeem Olatunji Ambali has swiftly reacted to the comments made by President Muhammadu Buhari,  for his partriotism on Local Government system and misappropriation of Local Government funds by some State Governors.

Akeem Ambali commended President Buhari for hitting the nail on the head, he made this frantic reaction during a press briefing on Monday, 5th December, 2022 at the NULGE Secretariat, Ogun State.

 

He however called President Buhari as the leader of the biggest party in Nigeria to track funds meant for Local Government since inception of his administration and encourage All Progressive Congress, (APC) State Governors and members of State Houses of Assembly who are yet to pass both Financial and Administrative Bill as a matter of urgency to assent to the Bill to demonstrate patriotism.

It will be recalled that on Thursday, 1st December, 2022, President Buhari while speaking at a parley with members of the Senior Executive Course (DEC) No. 44(2022) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru condemned the lakadaisical to attitude of some State Governors towards the actualisation of Local Government Autonomy which debar grassroot from having a functional Local Government.

“What they did, this is my personal experience, if the money from the Federation Account to the State is about N100 Million, N50 Million will be sent to the Chairman but he will sign that he received N100 Million. The Governor will pocket the balance and share it with whoever he wants to share it with” President Buhari lamented.

President Buhari emphasized on his promised to treat the report on LG Autonomy with seriousness and urgency it deserves.

Akeem Ambali, however called on all Nigerians to reject and vote against any party or candidate who cannot declare support for autonomy of Local Governments.

“The only opposition to the passage of autonomy Local Government bill is greed of the State Governors” Ambali fumed.
