Liverpool, Chelsea ended it in a barren draw at Anfield

It was unsurprising but very disappointing for the two struggling sides with the abysmal performance at Anfield after playing an uninspiring barren draw in the English Premier League fixtures.

The two sides languishing in the middle of the table, lacked confidence and wasteful in the attack. Liverpool coming into the game with the second string team majorly due to injury to the team captain, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and the right back, Trent Alexander Arnold who had only trained on Friday after a minor muscle problem, were on the bench for the better part of the encounter.

The 1st half was uneventful except in the 3rd minute, with what could have been the opener for the blues was over ruled for offside, when Kai Harvertz caught in on the re-bounce from Thiago Silva’s efforts that hit the post to tuck in the ball into the net but it was disallowed via the VAR check.

For the better part of the 1st half, Jorgen Klopps , who coincidentally playing his 1000th game as a manager could not fathom a winning formula for the Liverpool side that was nervous and lacked creativity in midfield.

The drab encounter hardly produced any excitement, except on few occasions though both teams were very aggressive. The Liverpool attack, marshalled by Cody Gakpo who is yet to register his name on goal scorer’s sheet in the English Premier League, since switching over to the side after the world cup in Qatar, wasted two chances while Mohammed Salah who had recently dropped in form was equally a shadow of himself.

However , the $88 million signing from Shakhtar Donetski, Mudryks came into the fray in the second and brought some sparkles into the Chelsea team.

The lack of attacking instincts on both sides made both goalkeepers , Ramses Alisson and kepa Arrizabalaga rarely called to serious action.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the home fans as the referee signalled the end of the encounter that failed to put smile on their faces.

Liverpool will be on duty again on the 29th of January,2023, away to Brighton in the FA cup while the blues will rest next weekend , having been eliminated from the FA cup by Manchester City.
However, on the 3rd of February, 2023, the blues will host Fulham at Stamford bridge in a West London derby.
