The Executive Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Alhaji ‘Tunde Emilola Gazal, has assured the people of the Area about his commitment to improve the Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR), base of the Council, due to daunting paucity of funds challenges facing the Local Government.

Hon Gazal gave the assurance during the working visit of the Director of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Ibadan Zonal office, Mr Olaore Adebayo and his team, yesterday at the Council secretariat, Itoro, Ijebu-Ode.

In his welcome address, Hon Emilola Gazal, gave kudos to His Excellency Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, MFR, for the giant strides taken in boosting the revenue generation of the governments at various levels.

The Council Boss appreciated the visiting team for discharging their statutory duty as stipulated and contained in a section of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; on compiling the actual revenue generated in tune with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards(IPSAS), as well as determining the remuneration appropriate for Political, Public and Judicial Office holders as enshrined in Paragraph 32(d) of part I to the Third Schedule.

Hon. Emilola Gazal, stated that, the Local Government has strategized to complement State Government efforts at improving the Local Government Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), by creating more revenue items in line with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards guidelines.

He added that, this will avail the Local Government to attend to the yearnings of her citizenry through project execution as a result of revenue accruing to her both from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and the Federal Allocation.

Hon. Gazal, reiterated thus “I want to assure our August visitors, and everyone present, that the Local Government will continue to do her best in terms of revenue generation since there is always  room for improvement, which will translate to developmental projects in order not to disappoint the electorates who have given us the mandates by voting us into office”.

Mr. Adebayo Olaore, the Zonal Director, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, in his response promised to take into cognisance the obstacles been faced by the Council, with the hope of proffering solution in no distant time.

Mr. Dapo Banjo, Head of Local Government Administration, (HOLGA), stressed that, the  Chairman’s observation must be taken into consideration because Local Government Financial Autonomy is only on paper, adding that the Federal Government projects don’t really have direct impact on the lives of the grassroots except the one’s carried out by the Local Government.

The secretary to Local Government, Mr. S.B.J Adesanya, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the Local Government.

Others in attendance are: Hon. Dare Alebiosu, Vice-Chairman; Mrs. K.O Akinsola, Director, Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Department; Supervisors, Special Advisers, Consultants and other top career Officers.
