A stoppage-time Oluwole Johnson penalty was enough for Gateway Utd to defeat Ibom Youth FC in a matchday sixth Nigeria National League, NNL fixture.

There was a big clearance from Oronsaye James as Ibom Youth FC looked to break on the counter, that action coming in the 20th minute.

Bakare Fatai had a free kick that sailed off the post as the first half ended goal less.

Coach Akeem Busari made a 50th minute substitution when Aderemi Yusuf and Salifu Haruna came into the fray for Bakare Fatai and Adeoye Victor.

There was a moment that looked like the opener would eventually go in, when Seyi Okeowo created the best opening of the second half for Odusina Sunkanmi who blasted over.

Gateway United kept asking all of the questions, this time, Kayode Dada’s shot was magnificently saved by the Ibom Youth FC goalkeeper.

There was a shout for a penalty, when Odunsina Olasunkami appeared to have been impended from behind on a goal bound effort, but the referee stood his ground and waved play on.

In the closing stages of regulation time, Seyi Okeowo shot straight at the goalkeeper in the area following some quick exchanges.

With the addition of five minutes, Gateway United kept probing the half of Ibom Youth and were awarded a penalty after Oluwole Johnson’s header was blocked by the arm of an Ibom Youth defender.
