ODEDA LG FLAGS OFF SCHOOL/ COMMUNITY BASED DEWORMING EXERCISE

The Transition Committee Chairman, Odeda local government, Hon Semiu Bola Lawal has flagged off the school/community based Deworming exercise in the council area. The programme was held today 29th, June 2021 at the OLG Primary School, Obantoko, Abeokuta.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon Lawal expressed his profund appreciation to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR for throwing his weight behind the programmes and other laudable health related projects and programmes that have been made possible in the State. He also praised the efforts of Evidence action, the major sponsor of the programme.

 

Speaking further, the Council helmsman, enlightened the parents and guardians that the deworming exercise is aimed at preventing Schistosomiasis and soil transmitted helminths, popularly referred to as ATOSI-AJA and ARAN INU in the local parlance.

He stressed that soil transmitted helminths (STH) is very prevalent in school-age children.

The Chairman further stated that, the disease is a significant and infectious public health burden in Nigeria and it is caused mainly by poor sanitation and unhygienic condition.

He cautioned that, soil transmitted helminths (STH) desease is a worm infection that interferes with nutrients uptake and it can lead to anaemia, malnourishment and impaired mental, physical and cognitive development which usually pose a serious threat to Children’s Health, Education and Productivity.

 


The Council boss, however, assured the pupils, parents and guardians not to entertain any fear on the intake of the drugs, but to make sure they eat solid food before taking the drugs.

Dignitaries at the event include the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adeboye Oyadina, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs Taiwo Akintomide and other Political functionaries and  Principal Career officers of the Local Government.
