OGUN COMMISSIONER MEETS NUT DELEGATES ON SCHOOLS UNREST

The Leadership of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Ogun State Wing met with the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu to delibrate on the incesant brutality unleashed on teachers.
The Chairman Nigerian Union of Teachers, Ogun State Wing Comrade Akinola Abiodun in his submission said their is need for all Stakeholders to sit together and iron out the issues.
He stressed that the attack is not carried out on Secondary School teachers only it has extended to Primary School as it was recorded at Ipokia Local government.
He called for the return of security personnel to all schools as a way of reducing the menace.
He noted that the policy on the abolishment of punishment too has led us to where we are.
The Secretary NUT, Ogun State Wing, Comrade Oyelere Samson in his submission said, there is no way you will have twelve disciples without a Judas. Erring Teachers at all levels should be identified and punished accordingly.
He appealed for a stakeholders meeting where all parties involved will iron out the issue.
He stated further that, the harsh economy is another militating factor. Everybody is tensed, hungry and angry and transfer of aggression is everywhere.
He ended his submission by saying, “if the government pays all that it owes to the teachers then the State will experience ease everywhere”
The Tescom Chairman, Mr Ifede said it is not an acceptable norm throughout the World for teachers to be attacked and it is not acceptable in Ogun State too.
He urged teachers to be more comported at their duty post and reduce too much familiarity with the learners.
He said that, Parents who go around attacking teachers also should be subjected to psychiatric treatment.
The Commissioner in his closing remark commended the NUT spokespersons, he said, he believed that if the current leadership style is what has been in existence since, there would not have been any division.
On the matter at hand, he said we are in this situation because children are bringing forth children. “We have baby parents all around and we also find ourselves in a situation where modern parents don’t want to train their children the way they were brought up and it cut accros all strata” he added
He said the Ministry has proposed Education Intervention Fund which will help alleviate the problems been faced in our schools and issue of Security personnel in schools will soon be resolved.
He urged all stakeholders to remain calm and give the government more time to attend to all the needs that has been brought to the table.
