Ogun State LGSC charges LG Image Makers on Quality Service Delivery

In a bid to improve and sustain quality service delivery, the Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, LGSC, Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo has charged all Information Officers in the Ogun State Local Government Service to painstakingly manage their roles as Image Makers in order to achieve desired results.
Onabanjo gave the charge, while declaring open a day workgroup and update meeting for Information Officers, Assistant Information Officers and Adult Education Officers, organized by the commission.
The meeting Workgroup deliberated on “Effective Communication of Government Policies and Programmes To The Public”.
According to Ms. Onabanjo, this will prevent unnecessary agitation, conflict and misunderstanding between the government and the citizens.
“The expectations of the public from government are numerous, therefore, Information Officers play an intermediary role between government and citizens, through gathering of useful information that aids policy formulation and the dissemination of accurate information.
“You can promote the image of the local government service through decent dressing, punctuality at work, good morals, good communication skills and professionalism in the discharge of your duties” Onabanjo said.
She stressed further, that the Ogun State Local Government Service is poised to be a leading example amongst the comity of Local Governments in Nigeria, “it is our collective responsibility to propagate the vision, mission statements and core values of the Service”
She emphasized that “Our vision is to be the most disciplined, ethically acculturated and professionally grounded Local Government Service in Nigeria”.
Barr. Onabanjo added that the Mission Statement of the LGSC, is to have a Local Government Service that is effective and efficient in service delivery, provided by crop of well trained and disciplined personnels, with the core values of integrity, professionalism, discipline and passion for excellence.
She disclosed that, the Commission have packaged an all-inclusive and interactive workgroup meeting tagged, “Effective Communication For Desired results, Programme Presentation and News Gathering/News Writing” saying this, will greatly impacted on staff service delivery at the grassroots.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, LGSC, Dr. Adeolu Olufowobi, expressed his disappointment towards some Information Officers, who did not perform well during the recent tour of the Commission to all the twenty (20) Local Governments in the State.
He said people see Information Officers as the image makers of the local governments. Hence the need for them to be above board, adding that they will continue to organize workgroups for the Information Officers, Assistant Information Officers and Adult Education Officers.
While appreciating the Commission on behalf of the participants, the number one Information Officer in the Local Government Service, Ms. Yinka Odeyinka, promised improvement in the discharge of their duties, at the grassroot level.
She then appealed to the Commission that, “like an Oliver Twist, these cadres requested for more of this gesture“.
