Ogun State LGSC Meets Holgas, State and LG Nulge Excos, Warns against Partisan Politics

The Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, on Wednesday met with Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAS), Executives of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE ) and all the branch chairmen of the Union across the twenty (20) local government areas.

The meeting which took place at the Commission’s conference room deliberated on the recent misconduct of some staff who engaged in partisan politics.

Addressing the meeting, the Chairman, Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo frowned at staffers of the commission, participating in partisan politics.

Onabanjo expressed disappointment towards some members of staff who, in spite of the rules against civil servants’ participation in partisan politics, took part in political rallies recently, she said the commission saw the move as an affront to the laid down order, warning staff to desist from the act.

She particularly mentioned an instance where some staff of a local government in the Remo zone of the state attended a campaign rally organized by a particular candidate, donning party branded apparels with banners and posters.

She said, the Local Government Service Commission will not hesitate to wield the big stick against any errant staff in future, as the action is against the civil service rules and regulations.


She charged all Heads of Local Government Administration, (HOLGAS) to monitor and checkmate their members of staff by monitoring them in their day to day activities, in their respective Local Governments.
Onabanjo then advised members of staff who are willing to fully partake in partisan politics to tender their resignation letters.

“Don’t allow your political interest to affect your job and stop giving the Commission bad names” Onabanjo said.

She further stated that, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE ) needs to wake up and monitor it’s members while charging them to curb members of staff from engaging in partisan politics, as the commission will no longer tolerate any form of misconduct from its workers again.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Dr Adeolu Olufowobi, expressed his disappointment towards the issue, saying that, “it negates the ethics of the Civil Service”. He warned that, disciplinary action would be taken, if any member of staff is found playing partisan politics.

Also, the State President of Nulge, Comrade Olatunji Ayuba appealed to the authorities of the Commission to overlook the excesses of the affected Remo workers, assuring that it will not repeat itself.
