SPORTS: Ewekoro LG Boss, Hon Adesina plays host to Victorious Council’s Contigent at IJEBU 2022

The Executive Chairman, Ewekoro Local Government, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa has called on well meaning individuals and corporate organizations to join hands with the government in the discovery of budding talents that are abounded in the council area.

The Local Government boss made the appeal while playing host to the Victorious Council’s contingent at the just concluded primary school sports festival, tagged,’ Ijebu 2022′ held at Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode.

Hon Adesina emphasized that Ewekoro Local Government was blessed with a lot of budding stars that were waiting to be discovered and nurtured to stardom.

‘”I want to appeal to well meaning individuals and corporate organizations to collaborate with the government and other major stakeholders in grass root sports development by sponsoring various sporting competitions to fish out the hidden talents and groom them into future stars like Tobi Amusan, the track superstar; the Falilat Ogunkoyas, the Austin Jay Jay Okocha, the midfield maestro, and our own mathematical Segun Odegbami” the chairman said enthusiastically.

The Council’s helmsman, therefore commended the youngsters for making the local government proud at the sports tourney.

He charged them not to rest on their oars and at the same time , not to jettison their education at the expense of sports as both could go together unhindered.

Responding, the public relation officer of the National Association of primary school games and sports teachers, Ogun State Chapter, Mr. Lawal Sulaimon Ishola, appreciated the Executive Chairman, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa for his support, noting that, this is the first time the association would receive any financial support and boost from any chairman in Ewekoro local government in the history of the association.

Mr. Lawal Sulaimon, further explained that the cash gesture really spurred the young lads into action during the competition, because the spirit in the camp was at a low ebbs as the team was almost stranded before the attention of the chairman was drawn to their plights and his life line salvaged the situation.

The 6th edition, which was tagged, IJEBU 2022, witnessed 200m, 100m, 400m, 800m for boys and girls, while in- door games such as Ludo, Table tennis, and Ayo Olopon formed part of the event.

The council representatives excelled in the in-door game, as master Kehinde Olukanmi of the African Church Primary school, Obanlado won silver medal in the ludo game while master Kazeem Quadri of African Church Primary School, Abalabi, also won silver medal in 800m race.

The high point of the event was the presentation of cash reward and the executive handshake from the chairman to the highly elated medal winning contingent.

The medalists were full of praises for the chairman, saying their participation had given them the needed tonic and exposure to compete favourably well with their counterparts from other local governments in the next edition , scheduled to hold in Egba Zone in 2023.
