“We Will Wage The Toughest War Against Malaria” – YSLG Chairman, Ogunsola

Due to the unbearable statistics of malaria cases and malaria related deaths in the country, we have no choice but to wage the toughest war against malaria.

The executive chairman of Yewa South local government, Hon. Abraham Babatunde Ogunsola made this assertion today at the flag off ceremony for the distribution of free Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLIN) in the council area, held at Leslie Primary Health Care (PHC) Center in Ilaro.

He said, his administration will switch into action in enabling the primary health care centers in the council area to be battle ready for malaria-related cases, in order to complement the efforts of the federal government and the Non-governmental agencies involved.

He said “provision of good, quality, accessible and affordable health care for the people is one of the agenda of his administration, hence throwing our weight behind this initiatives, just feels natural.”

“We are determined to reinforce the efforts of the NGOs and task our people at the grass roots to use the nets as intended. Our community leaders are already aware of the use of the insecticide treated Nets, notwithstanding we will not relent until our foot soldiers (health workers) come back with reports that there is no one in the entire local government area misusing the net.”

He stressed that, he will personally ensure that the distribution exercise and every other activities relating to it runs hitch free.

The exercise was championed by a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) incorporation between the Federal Ministry of Health and Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as, the Catholic Relief Services (CRS); Society for Family Health (SFH); BASF chemicals and amongst others.

The main aim of the program is to provide the less privileged and the vulnerable in our society with preventive measures to keep malaria parasite, resulting from mosquito bite, out of their system.

The distribution of the free Long Lasting insecticide treated Nets has been slated to hold between Tuesday 19th and Saturday 22nd November, starting from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Present at the event were: the Chairperson, wife of the council chairman; Vice Chairman, Hon. Bankole Sheriff Olanrewaju and his wife; Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Wole Fateru; Council’s Director of Primary Health Care Department, Dr. Taiwo Adebowale; State Coordinator of the Exercise, Mr. Bright and scores of other dignitaries.
