Winners Emerge in ICAN Abeokuta District, Society Quiz, Debate Competition

Winners have emerged in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Abeokuta and District Society Annual Quiz and Debate Competition.

The competition’s final held on Saturday 28th November, 2023 at the Institute’s Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, in Abeokuta, Ogun State had African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta emerging winner in both the Quiz and Debate competition.

A further breakdown of the results showed that African Church Grammar School won the debate competition with 48.3 points, Ebenezer Grammar School came second with 45 points and Mercyland International College in the third position with 43.6 points.

In the Quiz Competition, African Church Grammar School won with 21 points and was closely followed in the second position by the Nigerian Navy Secondary School with 20 points, and in the third position was Mercyland International College with 11 points.

Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, Prof. Goke Rauf, Rector, D. S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori charged parents and guardians to pay more attention to their male wards as there is a gradual decline in the participation of male students in competition of this nature which is evident in the number of female competitors when compared to their male counterparts.

Speaking with journalists after the programme the ICAN Abeokuta and District Society Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Babatunde Junaid, FCA, said that the programme is meant to encourage students, especially fresh Secondary Schools leavers and those in tertiary institutions to enroll and pass the ICAN exams within a short period of time.

He said It’s to encourage them to enroll for ATSWA exams and complete them in record time and stressed that, it’s a means of grooming future Chartered Accountants, targeting Students in Secondary Schools.
