“It is not uncommon in our country to face challenges, we are used to it. When they come, we don’t give in to fear. Instead, we rise and find a solution. The state of our roads is another challenge and together we will surpass it too”, words of the Executive Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Adebayo Salami.

In a Press release, signed by the Council’s Director of Information, Mrs Caroline Onaade, the Council Chairman, Hon. Adebayo Salami made the statement, at the local government secretariat in Ilaro, while debunking rumors that his government sit idly by, watching the state of the roads in the local government, especially roads in Ilaro communities, to go from bad to worse.

Hon. Salami, submitted that his administration, instead of sitting idly by, concerning the issue as reported, has done everything within his power to provide succour to the people of the local government area plying the roads.

He said the first step taken by his administration was to report the incidents to Ogun state government for prompt intervention.

He said ” I personally visited the areas facing the challenges along with the camera crew of the local government to document, appropriately, using still and audio-visual materials and presented same, to the State Governor for assistance”.

“After alerting the state, I instructed the works department of the local government to erect caution signs, with iron drums filled with concretes round the bad portion of the roads to alert on-coming vehicles for danger ahead.

“I also instructed the water and environmental sanitation department to clear the weeds around the affected areas so that commuters could see the danger ahead clearer”, the chairman explained.

The council helsman, stated further that, while it would have been preferable for him to step in and solve the issues surrounding the roads himself, he disclosed that the rehabilitation of the road is beyond the local government financial capacity, because it’s such an expensive interventions.

He said that he awaits the state government to lend a helping hand and by extension the Federal government in order to relieve commuters of the nightmares they suffered while plying the damaged roads.

Prior to the state government’s attention on the roads, the council chairman, enjoined all commuters plying the affected portion of the roads in the council area to bear with government as succor will soon come, as soon as the raining season is over.

He prayed that end would soon come to the hardship experienced by commuters plying the road and that everyone will be alive and well to witness and enjoy the rehabilitation of the road.
